Search by Distance
Yes, it’s finally here! I say finally but I only launched the site 22 days ago so I think we’re officially ahead of schedule. On the events page you can now enter a location and it will return all results in the system that are within a 25 mile radius. If you’d like to expand that search you can do so using the terribly nice filters on the left hand side – the distance option will pop up once you’ve entered a location.
Pretty smart, no?
Submit an Event
You can now submit an event of your own too, just go to this page here.
Events don’t go live right away on the site, they have to be manually processed by someone just to check that they’re not already in the system, and they’re not just a load of rubbish. But we’ll try and be prompt at LARP.GUIDE HQ.
I’m also going to start introducing a limited amount of event organisers to be able to add, maintain and update their own events. I expect testing to begin next month on this, before releasing it to all event organisers later on.
You’ll notice on the Submit an Event page that there are now lots of options to check. These options will display on the page of your site (like on this Odyssey event listing) and help people find useful information at a glance.
In the future I’m hoping to add these options to the filter bar on the search page so that potential players can find exactly the LARPs that they want.
The venues are a bit of a work in progress. Importing events from Facebook has left a slightly strange mixture of half filled in details for many of the event organisers. If you notice that one is missing informtaion, or that it’s Google map location is in the middle of the sea, drop me a line and let me know.
We also now have the magic of repeating events! I’m hoping that The London Froth Meet will be my test case here within the next week or two. Please do add social events to the calendar too, it would be great to see more and more social meets cropping up and being well attended.
That’s all the development for now because LARP.GUIDE HQ are heading away to New York for the week. Unfortunately we couldn’t find any LARP to play while we were out there in the depths of winter, but perhaps some other time!
