Theodosia of Thebes grew up on a farm as the middle of five children of a retired General of Greece. When her family was murdered, she fled with her surviving siblings (her twin sister and their older brother) to the city of Thebes. She became a priestess of Apollo in his aspect of the Archer and the Hunter.
For many years now she has been representing her home city at the Annual of Nations, travelling to Atlantis to participate in the politics, fighting, theology, democracy, debate and all the other madness that occurs there. She is now a Priestess of Nike, goddess of Victory and War, and is considered to be the Battle Priest of Greece. She loves her goddess (in more than one way *winkwink*) and would do anything for her, but she loves her nation and its people just as much. She is fairly well known for risking her life and taking stupid risks to help people.
She is an intensely emotional character. Her temper is violent, though buried deep. Her compassion for others often leads her to tears, and the highs of her joy are infectious. She is super focussed on what she has to do which often means that other things slip past her unnoticed; and she makes assumptions about other people being as morally centred and quick-thinking as she is, which lead to problems when she does not share information she believes everyone knows (but they haven’t twigged yet), or trusts someone with something she should not have done.
Theodosia (or Theo to her friends) treats everyone she meets with the same amount of respect and politeness – at least the first time, though the exception is if her temper has flared. This can make things difficult – she has friends in nations who are at war with hers, and has (on occasion) warned them of underhanded and misguided plots against them by her own people, something which her king has yet to catch her doing.
She is considered to be a good person; it was once said of her that she was the personification of the ideals of Greece. Whether she is or not she doesn’t herself know, though she tries to be so; tries with every fibre of her being, hating herself when she falls short.
Her armour – she’s always worn armour since becoming a War Priestess – but the last two events she’s had her own custom made armour. Created by the wonderful Kevin Fox, a fellow larper and non-professional kit-maker, who serves as Theo’s general, king, and adopted father.
Now she has the silky blue scarf that her goddess gave her as well.
When she led a very dangerous, stealthy and time-sensitive mission into the darkest and most awful part of the Greek Underworld, Tartarus. Fifteen souls went into that hell-hole. She warned each and every one of them that when they heard a bell toll, it meant that that had sixty seconds to get to the gate, and warned them further that once that happened, if they fell behind they would be left behind, because the object of their quest was too important to risk on turning back for them. What she did not expect was that, when sixty seconds had passed after the bell and the gates had slammed closed forever, there would be only six of the fifteen on the right side.
It broke her heart to leave them, but there was nothing she could have done. She almost tried anyway, but one of the soldiers hauled her back from that abyss and got her home, where she collapsed into floods of tears and could not function for blaming herself for the deaths and eternal torment of nine of her friends.
As a secondary point, when those same nine stumbled back into camp some hours later, cursed and amnesiac, and would only growl at Theodosia for what she had done, her heart broke again. Two years have passed and, though their curses are lifted and their souls restored, she has not forgiven herself. She never will.
When I started this character, I had no goals for her. My attendance at the event was part of a stag party for a good friend – I didn’t necessarily intend even on going back. But I could never contemplate leaving now.
Now, I have such plans for Theo. Can’t talk too much about one of them – too many of my friends read this to speak of the secret-secret-secret plan that is still in motion – but the other was to have her become Beloved of her goddess Nike (which in the context of the game means that they’re officially a couple and sleeping together). That came true last event. Where I go from here, I’m not sure.
She’s also been declared heir to the throne of her city-state, so at some point I hope that she becomes King – it would be fun to deal with her problems balancing her need for democracy with her city’s real need to function well. We shall see how that goes…
