Message in a Box by InkyLetter [Shopping Sunday]

By Charlie · On May 28, 2017

I love writing. That should hardly come as a surprise since writing is my profession, but still – I love writing. I love everything to do with it. I have a collection of dip pens and inks for LARP that would rival even the most prolific writers from history and practicing my calligraphy (which is still at ‘beginner’ level) is something I adore doing in my spare time.

However, not everyone wants to devote time to learning the art of beautiful writing. Not everyone even has nice handwriting (I’m looking at you, my friends in the medical profession…). But that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t roleplay that are characters are talented in these areas – it’s just that perhaps we need a little out of character help if we’re going to do that.

Thankfully people like Olga Kovalenko are here to do the hard work for us.

Important letters and scrolls deserve to be more than just a scrappy piece of printer paper with some writing scrawled on them. Imagine the difference between your character receiving a simple scroll, or receiving a sealed box containing a beautifully written and carefully worded letter?

Olga will take your words and turn them into a magical object for your character, she’ll even help you with the wording if you can’t get it to sound right.

And even if paying for this kind of service is above your budget right now – why not have a go at making your own props that are similar for your character? A dip pen and small bottle of ink are a small investment, but it’s the hours of practice that will make beautiful letters. Perhaps there’s an idea for a future post?
