The Iron Duke (or Barien to some) has watched with interest and some satisfaction as the Jotun flowed through Reinos and triumphed gloriously over the vastly outnumbered Lasambrians. Having conquered the territory, the Jotun now stand with a fresh border to the Empire.
Known to favour the Jotun, the Iron Duke has issued a challenge. For the Heroes of the Empire to bring their finest to meet champions of the Barbarian forces in great combat.
A facility in the southern part of the territory has been turned over to this purpose, and the Jotun await their challengers, to fight for the favour of the Summer Realm. Could this be a chance for the Empire to wrest some favour back from Summer and show their worthiness?
The “games” are sure to be terrifying, lethal and without mercy.
“Hmm, this is an opportunity don’t you think?”
Savros i Mestiere i Guerra looked upon the scrap of parchment bearing the challenge. His cousin gave him a foul look.
“I hope you’re not still considering supporting those murdering barbarians?”
Calo growled at the thought, the memory of the invasion still raw. Placing his goblet down on the table he clenched his fists as he waited for the reply. Savros looked curiously at Calo, as if attempting to figure something out.
“They defend our homes now cousin. Without them we would be completely open to invasion. Let us see what we can do… they must have families left behind?”
The elder Freeborn held up his hand to silence Calo’s next objection.
“Besides, did you not hear about the mithril mine?”
Scholars around Segura jumped to action. An opportunity to enter lands so close to their own and yet so unexplored?
Old papers were dug out and potential investigations near the site considered.
Of particular note… a tomb to a fallen warrior, dug deep within the hillside…
